Adult Autism Evaluations
At Pure Peace Counseling, our neurodiversity-affirming Adult Autism Assessments are centered around a comprehensive diagnostic interview using the MIGDAS-2 tool, widely regarded as the leading strength-based assessment available. *Note: This assessment’s results are not to be used for verifying a diagnosis for a disability claim or applying for programs requiring an official diagnosis. You would be more suited to get a diagnosis from a clinical psychologist instead of licensed therapist for those purposes.
Alabama residents only!
What does neurodiversity-affirming mean?
Unlike a deficits-based approach that aims to “fix” the perceived impairments of neurodevelopmental conditions, a neurodiversity-affirming approach recognizes that every neurotype possesses unique strengths, interests, and support needs. It also emphasizes how environmental factors and societal barriers can intensify the challenges experienced by neurodivergent individuals. We will do special tests that examine behaviors you may be masking to “fit in” with others. This is a safe space where no masks are needed and you are valued for your differences and strengths.
Who is this testing for?
I work best with adults who have spent much of their lives feeling “out of sync” with the world around them.
You may be competent, insightful, and successful on paper — yet privately exhausted. You might have learned to read rooms carefully, script conversations, push through sensory discomfort, or over-prepare just to feel steady. Maybe you’ve been told you’re “too sensitive,” “too intense,” or “overthinking.” Maybe you’ve carried anxiety, burnout, or self-doubt for years without fully understanding why.
Many of the adults I assess are high-masking individuals who were missed in childhood — especially women, nonbinary folks, professionals, creatives, and people of color who didn’t fit outdated stereotypes of autism.
You might be here because:
You’ve been researching autism and quietly seeing yourself in the descriptions
ADHD, anxiety, or depression diagnoses haven’t fully explained your experience
You feel chronically drained from social interactions
Transitions, executive functioning, or sensory input feel harder than they “should”
You want clarity — not to pathologize yourself, but to understand yourself
My Philosophy:
I approach autism assessment from a neurodiversity-affirming lens. That means:
Autism is not something to fix.
Masking is adaptive, not manipulative.
Your lived experience matters as much as standardized tools.
Strengths and support needs coexist.
Assessment with me is collaborative, transparent, and grounded in both research and respect. We explore developmental history, current functioning, patterns over time, and the context of trauma, culture, and identity. I will not reduce you to a checklist. I’m interested in your full story.
Many clients tell me they’re afraid of being dismissed — especially if they’re high-achieving, verbal, or socially skilled. My role is not to gatekeep identity. It’s to provide clarity, clinical integrity, and a thoughtful evaluation that helps you make sense of your life.
What Clients Often Want:
Language for lifelong patterns
Relief from “maybe I’m just bad at being a person”
Validation of sensory and social differences
Guidance on accommodations or next steps
A strengths-based report that feels accurate
Whether the outcome is an autism diagnosis, a different diagnostic understanding, or a nuanced formulation, the goal is the same: self-understanding without shame.
If you’re ready to explore your neurotype with curiosity rather than criticism, we’ll likely be a good fit. What is included in testing?
What’s included:
- An initial 15 minute phone consolation call with our team to discuss your goals, answer any basic questions about the process, and scheduling for your initial intake session.
- An initial intake session to discuss your background, possible issues that could be presenting as autistic traits, your interest in exploring a diagnoses, and answer any additional questions you may have.
-An assessment of sensory profile, executive functioning, autistic psychosocial history, screening for further ADHD testing, and social responsiveness evaluation.
-A written personalized report of all findings with a separate session to discuss the findings and the implications and the diagnosis given. (Optional)
-A short 1 sheet letter to explain diagnosis and ways to support clients that can be given to loved ones, employers, or teachers as needed. (Optional)
-A detailed collaborative sensory plan and accommodations plan for clients to use in diverse life environments that is beyond the normal report of a neuropsychiatric assessment. (Optional)
-Resources for aftercare including an option to become an individual therapy client with a licensed neuro-affirming provider.
